Obituary of William M. "Bones" Mahoney, Jr

William M “Bones” Mahoney, Jr, 75, of Peabody, died peacefully Wednesday September 16 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late William M. Mahoney, Sr, and Virginia (Pratt) Mahoney. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1964. “Bones” was a Peabody firefighter and EMT for over 33 years before his retirement. He also worked at Brooksby Village as a security guard/ EMT for 20 years. He was very active in the Peabody community. He volunteered for over 30 years at the American Red Cross. He served for many years up to the present as the treasurer of the board at PMFCU. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was a longtime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Div. 11. He was also a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 1409 and the Italian American Club, all of Peabody. “Bones” was well-known for making his “daily rounds” in the community. He was well loved and respected in his neighborhood always offering a helping hand in time of need. He is survived by Donna (LaChance) Mahoney with whom he shared several years of marriage. He is also survived his daughter Kelli Bedard and her husband Raymond of Danvers, and his sons Sean Mahoney and his wife Meghan of Groveland and Bryan Mahoney of Beverly. He is also survived by a sister Elizabeth Fader and her husband Craig of Peabody. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Vanessa Ronan, Lauren and Brayden Mahoney, and Kayla and Aine Mahoney, and is also survived by his sister-in-law Noreen Carvalho and her husband Patrick of Orlando, FL., and by several nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his sister Maureen Mahoney. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 12:00 PM at St. John’s Church, Peabody. All attendees for both wake and funeral are required to wear facial coverings and maintain social distancing as well. For those attending the Mass, we asked you to go directly to the church to be seated in accordance with the church guidelines. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the local Red Cross.
