Obituary of Eddie Whitcomb

Peabody – Edward A. “Eddie” Whitcomb 64, beloved husband of Valerie S. (Merrill-Alfaro) Whitcomb, died Saturday, September 26, 2020 at his home. Born in Portugal, he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Jeanne C. (Hazel) Whitcomb, he was raised and educated in Peabody and graduated from the Essex Agricultural School in Danvers. He continued his education, earning an associate’s degree from North Shore Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Salem State College. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the 82nd Airborne Rangers of the United States Army. Mr. Whitcomb had been employed for fifteen years as a firefighter for the City of Peabody until the time of his retirement. Prior to that he had worked for the Peabody Police Department. Following his retirement, he worked for his son’s business, Whitcomb Tree Service in Peabody for six years. A longtime resident of Peabody, Eddie was a member of the VFW. He was also an avid wildlife photographer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jon Paul Whitcomb and his wife, Taylor of Peabody, a daughter, Jennifer Whitcomb of Peabody, four grandchildren, Katarina Jesson, Isabella Vidinha, Ryann Whitcomb and Landyn Whitcomb, a sister, Cathy Steeves and her husband, Rick of Lynn, five brothers, Eugene Whitcomb of Nashua, NH, Raymond Whitcomb Jr. and his wife, Sue of Peabody, Paul Whitcomb and his wife, Wendi of Lynn, Kenneth Whitcomb and his wife, Steph of Peabody, Richard Whitcomb of Vermont and many nieces and nephews. Eddie was so proud knowing he was going to be a “soon to be” great grandfather. His funeral service will be held graveside, at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody, on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with military honors. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. All attendees are required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
