Obituary of Jim Ouellette

Jim Ouellette, 69, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away peacefully on October 5, 2020 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, he managed his illness with strength and grace. His daughter Denise was by his side during his final days. Born in Salem, MA on October 31, 1950, he was the second child to the late Alfred and Bertha Ouellette. He graduated from Salem High School in 1969. A few years after graduating, he and a friend became business partners and ran a small carpentry business called Mackey and Ouellette Builders. He then went on to become a mechanic with Boston Gas. In 2013, after nearly 30 years with the company, he retired and made the decision to fulfill his dream of retiring to Florida. He enjoyed sports and was a die-hard Patriots and Red Sox fan. He loved playing golf, especially with his “Hoover” buddies and enjoyed traveling. Jim was always off on some adventure with his family and friends. Also, he shared a love of all things trains with his brother Butch and had a love for black cats that he always named Rufus. Jim is survived by his daughter Denise Benavides and her husband Peter and son Ben of Peabody, his daughter Devin Buckley of Milton, NH, his son Robert Ouellette of Lynn, his sister-in-law Betsy Ouellette, nephew David Ouellette and his wife Kerri and daughter Violet of Danvers, his niece Elizabeth Ouellette and her sons Andrew, Anthony, and Adam, of Peabody, along with a host of beloved in-laws, cousins, grandchildren and long-time friends. He was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Butch (Alfred) Ouellette. A Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. All attendees are required to wear facial covers and maintain social distancing as well.
