Jean, Ellen, John, Ann, Mark and family- please accept my sincere condolences regarding Ruth's passing. I was very fortunate that she was my "second mom" growing up and I have many, many fond memories of time spent at 30 Hillcrest Ave/Greenie woods and especially at 7c's on Thompson Lake. She was an incredibly dynamic and positive person who was a great support/friend to my parents and our family. As the role of homemakers/women in our society shifted, she was very encouraging of my mom as she returned to school for degrees in nursing and then divinity. Ruth was a great cook and meals at home and at the lake were almost always accompanied by lively discussions regarding topics of the day which I always looked forward to. Ruth created and nurtured a home/environment/family that was filled with love and support and which you all radiated outward into the world. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of transition of the loss of her physical presence in your lives. May the many memories you have of her be a blessing. Ken Norton, Tilton, NH.

My condolences to the Christoforo family. In high school I had the privilege of working for Mrs. Van at her restaurant on Revere Beach for 2 summers. It was the best job ever, she was so sweet. I remember each early morning before we opened the front my job was to mop the floors. She would play Frank Sinatra music as we went about our chores. It was so magical I loved every minute of it. Best wishes to your family as you pass through this sad time.

We met John and Ruth when we moved to their neighborhood in Melrose in 1971 after the birth of our first child. When John realized I was an italian kid from East Boston who was a lawyer at a Boston "white shoe" law firm, he and Ruth took an immediate liking to us. Over the years, I would join John during his morning walks. He and Ruth were wonderful people and their children were blessed to have them as parents. John became a mentor and friend. He gave me great advice on navigating an old Yankee law firm, such as , "Always go the partner meetings If you're there, they can't talk about you!" At one point, they had my wife and I come up to the house. They were planning to downsize and thought it would be a great house for our growing family. They even offered to give me the mortgage. I was just starting out and was too cautious but I will never forget their kindness and genrosity of spirit. God bless and God speed. Tom Maffei

I will always remember your Mother who was a good friend and neighbor when we both lived on Malvern Street in Melrose. My husband and I often visited with your parents on summer vacations. My sincere condolences to all of you. We renewed our old friendship at Brooksby Village where we again became neighbors.
