Obituary of Edward W. Bartnciki Sr.

Edward W. Bartnicki, Sr., 91, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the Pilgrim Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center in Peabody following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Ruth B. (Rhoades) Bartnicki who died in 2014. Born in Salem on October 6, 1929, he was the son of the late Wladyslaw and Jozefa (Lipka) Bartnicki. He was a graduate of Salem High School. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he was honorably discharged on January 14, 1955. He was a longtime member of the Vittori-Rocci Post in Beverly, MA. Ed was employed for many years at the former C.F. Tompkins Furniture Co. and the Kernwood Country Club in Salem. During his retirement he enjoyed repairing antique clocks and spending time with his family. Ed loved traveling with his wife of 59 years, Ruth, to island locations including Bermuda, Aruba, and Hawaii. They also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and local casinos for a day of slots. In his younger years he participated in Drum Corp competitions as a trumpeter; bowling leagues; and dancing with his wife and siblings. He was an avid golfer as well. A sociable man, he loved nothing more than stopping to say hello to people with babies in carriages and dogwalkers so he could get a smile, or a tail wag. He is survived by his two daughters, Karen J. Bartnicki of Rochester, NH Wendy L. Ventura of Londonderry, NH; his son, Edward W. “Nick” Bartnicki, Jr. of Salem; sons-in-law, Kenyon Burch of Bellingham, WA and Richard Ventura of Madison, NH; six grandchildren, Tyler (Ventura) Litchfield and spouse Chris of Hooksett, NH; Brian Ventura of Derry, NH; Chris, Casey, Shon and Chad Burch of Bellingham, WA; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Pamela A. Burch; two brothers, Thaddeus and John Bartnicki and five sisters, Helen Mignault, Mary Townsend, Estelle L’Italian, Alice Desmond and Ann Kowalski. A private burial was held by family on November 28, 2020 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Ed’s name to The American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
