Obituary of Francisca de Jesus Bettencourt

Francisca de Jesus Bettencourt, 92, of Peabody, died early Tuesday morning at the Penacook Nursing Home in Haverhill following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Joao Santos Bettencourt. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Carlos C and Mariana (Mendonca) Bettencourt. She was raised in Portugal and then immigrated to the United States in 1975. She has lived in Peabody for the past 45 years. Francisca first worked in the leather industry at Charlies Shoes in Peabody. She then worked in the kitchen at the Ferncroft Country Club, and finally, before retiring in 1993, she was a machine operator for Blyer Industries in Lynnfield. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Manuel and Maria Bettencourt of Peabody, Joseph and Mariana Bettencourt of Haverhill and John and Ana Maria Bettencourt of Peabody, her daughter Maria Lima of Providence, RI, her sister, Biondina Silveira of Peabody, her 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by 2 brothers and 7 sisters. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. All attendees are required to wear facial coverings and maintain social distancing as well. Funeral Services will be private, and burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
