Obituary of John Mahalaris

John Mahalaris, 72, died peacefully Monday, November 30, 2020 in the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis A. (Wogan) Mahalaris. Born in Salem, MA on November 25, 1948, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen (Papanichola) Mahalaris. He was a graduate of Peabody High School class of 1966 and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Southern New Hampshire University class of 1972. He has resided in Peabody, Beverly, MA, Casco, ME, Portland, ME and Hampton, NH for many years before moving to Seabrook in 1998. While in Maine he enjoyed coaching Little Ladd Football. John was employed as a revenue officer for the Internal Revenue Service for thirty-seven years before retiring in 2005. In addition to his wife of fifty years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John C. and Kelly Mahalaris of Cumberland, RI and Daniel J. and Jessica Mahalaris of Scottsdale, AZ; three grandchildren, Jack, Kirsten and Rachel Mahalaris; two sisters, Diane Hollingsworth and her husband, Gary and Kathy Powers and her husband, Jim; three brothers, Leo Mahalaris and his wife, Susan, Perry Mahalaris and Nicholas Lahris; several nieces and nephews and his loving cocker spaniel, “Joey”. His funeral service will be privately held in the Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem at the convenience of the family.
