Obituary of Edmond J. Girard

Peabody - Edmond Joseph Girard, 87, (U.S. Marine) passed away Thursday morning, December 3, 2020 at Putnam Farms Senior Living in Danvers, MA. Edmond was born in Salem, MA, the son of the late Joseph Edmond, Sr. and Bridie (Duddy) Girard. He attended Saint Joseph’s Grammar School, a graduate of Salem High School Class of ’51, and later studied Civil Engineering at Lowell Technical Institute. Edmond was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War Conflict. He proudly served from 1950 to 1952. He was employed by the Massachusetts Highway (DOT) as a Resident Engineer and involved in numerous highway projects. He retired as a Senior Civil engineer after 39 years. He was an avid Boston sports fan and his favorite sport was football. He loved the New England Patriots and was proud of their accomplishments over the last 2 decades. He was an active member of the Peabody High Football Boosters and served as President for many years. Edmond was also a member of the American Legion Post 153 and the Family Motor Coach Association, enjoying many years of travel. Ed and his wife Jennie spent over 20 years during the winter months in Palm Bay, Florida where they had many friends and family would visit. One of his most proud football moments occurred in the autumn of 1946. While visiting his Aunt Mary and Uncle Joseph in Englewood, New Jersey, he was asked to attend the St. Cecilia High School football game. En route to the game in his uncle’s truck, they picked up a gentleman named Vince with whom they shared their front seat. Years later when speaking to his Aunt Mary, she stated “It’s pretty incredible what’s happened with Vince.” To which he replied, “Who’s Vince?” and she noted, “Well, the man who sat with you on the way to the St. Cecilia’s football game you attended, Vince Lombardi.” Edmond will be greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Jennie (Guzowski), as well as his two sons and daughter, Edward of Grapevine, TX, Stephen of Groveland, MA and Suzanne Gray of Peabody, MA. He also has six wonderful grandchildren, Christine Girard and Stephen Girard Jr. of Groveland, MA and Michael Gray, Daniel Gray, Julianna Gray and Melissa Gray of Peabody, MA who will all deeply miss their Pépère. His funeral services will be private. Arrangements by the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody.
