Obituary of Dr. Arthur C Buckley, Jr.

Arthur C. Buckley Jr., D.M.D., 75, of Peabody, a well-known Dentist in Peabody and Reading, died on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Judith A. (Massa) Buckley. Arthur, more commonly known as “Art” or “Doc”, was born in Salem, MA on February 7, 1945, the son of the late Edna Elizabeth (Kelly) and Arthur C. Buckley Sr. He was raised in Lynn and resided in Peabody for most of his life. Art was a proud graduate of St. John’s Prep,(Danvers), Tufts University where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and Tufts Dental School. He was in the Massachusetts Army National Guard during the Vietnam era as a Captain in the Medical Division. Dr. Buckley started his private dental practice in Peabody, opened an office in Reading and returned to Peabody to finish a 50 year career prior to his retirement in 2019. He is fondly remembered for his smile, generosity, sense of humor and his signature rubber glove slingshot to the trash which he performed for his patients. He had been a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society, the Salem Country Club and the AOH of Peabody. He was President of the Board of Trustees at JB Thomas Hospital, former President of the Popular Credit Union of Peabody, a parishioner at St. Ann’s Church and coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball in Peabody. Although Art entertained the idea of spending more time in Florida and New Hampshire during his retirement, he and his wife Judith often found themselves eager to return home to be with family. He proudly supported his sons and his grandchildren at countless games, meets and matches. Art was an avid reader and enjoyed dinners and socializing with friends. He also had some signature dance moves in his prime. He had a way of making everyone feel special and took great interest in engaging with others, regardless of the topic. He will be sorely missed by all those who loved him. Art was the husband of his high school sweetheart, Judy, of Peabody, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage, and a proud and loving father to three sons and daughters-in-law: Eric and Erin Buckley, Todd and Lisa Buckley and Adam and Kristen Buckley all of Peabody. He was affectionately known as “Papa” to his ten cherished grandchildren: Ryan Arthur, Sarah, Cameron, Kirsten, Christian, Luke, Cailyn, Kyra, Ava and Leah Buckley all of Peabody. He also leaves a brother-in-law, Thomas Massa and his wife Barbara Alex of Marblehead, a sister, Frances Corcoran of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandchildren, Colton and Jenna Angela Buckley and had a close relationship with his in-laws, the late Ida and Angelo Massa of Beverly.
