Obituary of Ellen Theresa Hardy

Ellen Theresa (Conway) Hardy, age 78, of Peabody, died on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the NSMC Salem Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving and devoted wife of Francis X. Hardy with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, MA on September 30, 1942, Ellen was the daughter of the late Austin J. and Theresa (McDaid) Conway. She was raised in Lynn, moving to Peabody in 1972. A graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1960, she attended American Institute of Banking and New England College of Banking and Finance. Ellen started her banking career at Essex Bank, then Lynn Five Cent Savings Bank and retired in 2005 from Eastern Bank where she was Assistant Vice President of Banking Operations and a member of the Eastern Bank Quarter of Century Club. Following her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed being snow birds in Tampa, Florida. Traveling to Europe as well as trips to Ireland and England to visit family. She was a communicant of St. Adelaide’s Church, a former CCD teacher, a Eucharistic Minister and served on the Parish Finance Committee and was a member of the Shawl Ministry, Bowling League and many activities in the Parish. Ellen enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Especially loved attending her granddaughter’s sports and watching them grow into beautiful young ladies. Ellen served on the board of directors of the Friends of the Peabody Council on Aging and was a former member of the board of the Lynn VNA. In addition to her husband, Ellen in survived by her beloved daughter Suzanne Plummer and her husband William Plummer of Somersworth, NH. Ellen was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Bridget Ethel (Conway) Hardy and her late husband William, her sister-in-law Eileen Brown, Mary Murphy and brother in law Thomas Hardy. She is Survived by her sister-in-law Ann Jones and her husband Alfred, her brother in laws, Manuel Brown, Arthur Murphy and sister-in-law Eileen Hardy and many nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., West Peabody. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Those attending the visitation and Church Services are required to weak masks and keep social distancing.
