Obituary of Shirley A Smith

Shirley A Smith, 89, of Peabody, died from complications of Covid-19 on December 27 at Salem Hospital. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Samson and Veronica (Silver) Smith. Shirley was employed with the Boston Naval Shipyard in the comptroller’s office for many years and then worked at the South Boston Army Base as manager in the contract’s division for the defense department before she retired years ago. Shirley was a longtime supporter of the American Legion Post 227 in Middleton and the Ladies Auxiliary as well. She enjoyed spending time with her family and later with her grandchildren and sharing in all their activities. Shirley is survived by her son Charlie and his wife Melissa Goddard of Melrose, her daughter, Carol and her husband Charles Lindzen of Sweden, her brothers, Donald Smith of Peabody and David and his wife Sheila Smith of Ossipee, NH, her grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Alicia Goddard, Kelly Goddard, Delia and her husband Daniel Stanley, Jamie and her husband John Lindeman, and Heather Hawkes, her great grandchildren, Carolyn, Emily, Elliott, Aidan, and Abigail and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Donald L Goddard and her sister Virginia Filippone. Due to the Covid-19 virus a celebration of life will be held later next year when all can attend. A private graveside service was held on the family lot in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
