Obituary of Helen (Spiliotis) McDonald

Helen (Spiliotis) McDonald of Peabody, wife of the late Harold B. McDonald who died October 26, 1997, passed away on January 12, 2021 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Peabody, the youngest child of Louis and Anastacia (Albani) Spiliotis who emigrated to this country in the early 1900’s. Helen was a lifelong Peabody resident. She attended Peabody schools and graduated Peabody High School, class of 1952. Helen worked at the First National and Giant Value stores in Peabody, at the IRS facility in Andover, and at two local data entry companies. Prior to her retirement in 2016 she enjoyed her position as assistant librarian for many years at the main branch of the Peabody Library. She enjoyed remodeling her home, traveling, reading, cooking, ceramics, and especially entertaining her family and extended family at many very special holiday dinners. Helen is survived by her two sons, Wayne McDonald of Salisbury, and Keith McDonald of Lewiston, ME. Three grandchildren, Michael McDonald and Sean McDonald of Peabody, Felicia Machado of Salem and her step-grandson, Stephen Farncoft, her two sisters, Constance Perakis of Lewiston, NY. And Virginia Dutille of Peabody. Mrs. McDonald leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Paul, Andrew and George Spiliotis, Isabelle Koulas, Emily Lawrence, Jennie Retos, Mary Espinola, and Constance Spiliotis. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, her funeral service will be private. In lieu of flower, contributions may be made in her memory to the National Pancreatic Cancer foundation, PO Box 1848, Longmont, CO 80502.
