Obituary of Connie Ramsdell

Peabody – Constance R. “Connie” (Careless) Ramsdell 90, formerly of Somerville and Jamaica Plain, beloved wife of Arthur E. Ramsdell, died Monday, January 18, 2021 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Francis D. and Mary C. (McManus) Careless. Mrs. Ramsdell had been employed for many years as executive assistant to the Vice-President of Tufts University. She then served in an executive position at Somerville Hospital until the time of her retirement. As a young woman she had begun her work career as a court stenographer. In addition to her husband with whom she shared seventy years of marriage, she is survived by her nieces, Sandra King of Newport, RI and Donna Newbower of Acton, her nephews, Paul Ramsdell of Framingham, Roy Ramsdell of Boston, Kenneth FitzGerald of Milton and Robert X. Careless of Killeen Texas, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also the sister of the late Kathleen Careless and Robert Careless. Connie enjoyed celebrating holidays, birthdays and significant milestones with her extended family. To them she was the young-at-heart Aunt who lived in the most happening neighborhood of Davis Square. She loved all museums and once set a goal of visiting every one dealing with Revolutionary-War History in Massachusetts. Fond of anything nautical, she collected scrimshaw, paintings of ocean beaches, and items related to whaling history. With Arthur, she took pleasure in long walks on Revere Beach and having lunch at Kelly’s Roast Beef. Her favorite activity was camping with Arthur on Cape Cod. Given the Covid-19 issues, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. A private family Graveside Service will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. The Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody assisted the family. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Resident Care Fund, 100 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, MA 01960.
