Obituary of Richard E. Neenan

Richard E. Neenan of Peabody passed away at home on January 25th from COVID-19 at age 65. Richard had a long career in retail stores, including management positions at several Almy’s stores, Ames, and Linens ‘N Things, among others throughout northeast Massachusetts. More recently he was employed at JC Penney and the Ann & Hope Curtain & Bath Outlet in Danvers. He graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody and studied education at Salem State University. An adoring uncle to his nieces and nephew, he attended all their celebrations and school events, and became known to many as “Uncle Richie”. Rich enjoyed family gatherings, summer vacations on Cape Cod and New Hampshire with friends, traditional Irish music, “A Christmas Carol” at the North Shore Music Theater and nights out with friends for pizza. Quick with a quip and a laugh, Rich was a loyal and steadfast guy who loved his hometown of Peabody. The son of the late Joseph Neenan and Elizabeth (Fouhey) Neenan of Peabody, Rich leaves his brother Joseph Neenan, Jr., and his wife Christine (Toleos) Neenan of Danvers, and their children the late Ali Neenan Herman and her husband Nathan Herman of Peabody, Becky Neenan of Peabody, and Tommy Neenan of Methuen. He also leaves many cousins, including close cousins Nancy (Neenan) Savageau and her husband Ron, and Elizabeth (Neenan) Gurdon and her late husband Steve. Rich also leaves his best friends Tony Malionek and his wife Jan (Marsden) Malionek of Beverly and Ron Gagnon and his wife Ann (Morris) Gagnon of Danvers. Funeral Services are private due to the pandemic. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to: Melmark New England, Advancement Office, 461 River Road, Andover MA 01810 or made securely online at www.supportmelmarkne.org
