Obituary of Emilia (Gomes de Araujo) Pereira

Mrs. Emilia (Gomes de Araujo) Pereira, 95 of Peabody, died on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 surrounded by her family at her home. She was the devoted wife of the late Alexandre de Araujo Pereira, also of Peabody, Massachusetts. Born in Soajo, Arcos de Valdevez, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel de Araujo and Rose Gomes. She was raised and educated in Portugal and then immigrated to the United States in 1968 where she lived in New York City for ten years before moving to Peabody to work and help raise her family and extended family. Emilia worked for P. Clayman & Sons Inc. of Salem, Mass for over 25 years before retiring in 1993. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and visiting Portugal. She had a strong faith and was a faithful parishioner of St. John’s the Baptist Church in Peabody. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and were always the center of her attention. Emilia is survived by her son, Joaquim Pereira of Peabody and by her devoted five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her six brothers and sisters in Portugal and by her son Antonio Pereira in 2018. A visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s the Baptist Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. All attendees are required to wear facial coverings and maintain social distancing. Emilia will be buried alongside her husband in Portugal.
