Obituary of Gilbertina A. DaSilva

Gilbertina A (de Sousa) DaSilva, 94, of Peabody, died peacefully Friday morning at her home surrounded by her family following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Manuel Espinola DaSilva. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Mariano and Rosa de Sousa. She was raised in Portugal and later immigrated to the United States and has lived in Peabody for the past 46 years. Gilbertina was a member of the Holy Ghost Society, Our Lady of Help Hall and was a long-time communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. She also enjoyed cooking and enjoyed all celebrations with family and friends. She is survived by her two sons, Manuel DaSilva and his wife Lurdes, Zelio Silva and his wife Fernanda, both of Peabody, her four daughters, Maria Espinola and her husband Manuel of Portugal, Niza Silva and her husband Helder, Herondina Borges and her husband Vasco, and Isolina Pimentel and her husband Frank, all of Peabody; a son-in-law, Alexandrino DaSilva; 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Natalia DaSilva in 2019, and 7 brothers and sisters. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Due to covid-19 restrictions, her Funeral Mass will be held privately on Tuesday with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
