Obituary of Adalgisa Jesus Da Silva

Adalgisa Jesus Da Silva, 98, of Peabody, passed away Friday afternoon at the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody, following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Sousa Da Silva, who passed away in 1989. Adalgisa was born on June 25, 1922, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, daughter of the late Jose and Lucia (Cunha) Santos. She was raised and educated in Portugal, before immigrating to the United States on March 19, 1968. Prior to her retirement she had worked as a machinist for Ideal Baby Shoe in Danvers. She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, a place she loved and attended mass as often as she could. She was also a member of the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost both in Peabody. Adalgisa will always be remember for her kindness and generosity. She spent countless hours knitting blankets and sweaters and would donate them to church bazaars or send them to family and friends, always putting everyone else before herself. She loved being surrounded by her family and friends, she will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her children; the late Manuel Santos Silva, Augustinho Da Silva, Joao E. Silva, Joseph H. Silva, her daughters-in-law, Maria Antonina Silva, the late Maria Iduina Da Silva, Eugenia Maria Silva and Lisdalia Silva, her grandchildren, Diane Da Silva of Canada, Antonio Silva of North Reading, Paul Silva of Peabody, Katherine Da Silva of Canada, Cindy Shuff of Peabody, Stacey Boccelli of Danvers, Bryan Silva of Peabody; her great-grandchildren, Derek, Shannyn, Danielle, Jacob, Taylor, Olivia, Amalia; her brother, Antonio Dos Santos; her sisters-in-law, Delminda dos Santos and Maria E. dos Santos, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Holy Ghost Society of Peabody and Northshore Elderly Services. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, services for Adalgisa will be held privately.
