Obituary of David E Kinsella
David Edward Kinsella of Peabody, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
David was born in Beverly, MA on May 25, 1933 to Catherine Margaret Wetson and David Edward Kinsella of Hamilton, MA. He graduated from Beverly High School and joined the United States Air Force in 1951. Following his first tour, he returned briefly to the United States before re-enlisting and deploying to England. David then spent several years in Hamilton before pursuing his passions in New York City, where he attended theatre classes at Hunter College and began writing poetry and producing plays. In fall 1962, in what David described as the defining moment of his life, he met his wife Teresa at a dance hall in Manhattan, and they were married in Brooklyn in 1963. After several years in New York, David and Teresa moved to Salem, MA, along with their four children, Elizabeth, James, David, and Daniel. David worked several technical jobs before joining Raytheon, where he worked as senior technical writer for more than 30 years.
Upon his retirement from Raytheon, David pursued his lifelong love of traveling. He returned to Europe and fulfilled two long-held aspirations: to play golf on some of the world’s oldest and largest courses and to explore his family’s history and heritage. He traveled throughout England, Scotland, and Ireland locating family, exploring historical sites, reading and writing, and playing the legendary links. David then returned home. Soon after, he set out on his second trip, this time to the West Coast. There he played many prominent golf courses, took in the natural landscapes, explored the cities, and, of course, continued to read and write poetry.
When David returned from his travels, he discovered his second and ultimately favorite vocation: helping to raise his grandchildren. He adopted the affectionate nicknames of “Pop Pop” and “Poppy,” and he gave his heart and energy to his family. He is remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
David is survived by his wife of 58 years, Teresa (Finn) Kinsella; their daughter Elizabeth Crotty, wife to Michael and mother to Kelly and Colleen of Peabody; their son James, husband to Tina and father to Shayne, Kaitlin, and Ryan of Wilmington; their son David, husband to Deirdre and father to Catherine, Nicole, and Cassandra, and grandfather to Lukas of Beverly; their son Daniel, husband to Elizabeth and father to Shannon, Erin, and Daniel of Kingston, NH; his sister Phyllis (Kinsella) Hayes of Beverly; and his many nieces and nephews.
