Obituary of Salvatore F. Tavernese

Peabody – Salvatore F. “Poncho” Tavernese 85, formerly of Lynn, beloved husband of Deborah (Callahan) Tavernese, died Saturday, February 27, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Arlington, he was the son of the late Domenic and Yolanda (Macri) Tavernese. He was raised in Lynn and attended Lynn Classical High School. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Army. Mr. Tavernese had been employed for over twenty-five years as a custodian for the North Shore Community College at it’s Danvers and Lynn campuses. Prior to that he had worked for over twenty years as a bar manager for the Lynn Tap & Grill in Lynn. A resident of Peabody for the past twenty years and prior to that in Lynn, he was a member of the Italian American Citizens Club in Lynn, The V.F.W. and was a member of the Slow Pitch Softball League in Lynn for many years. He was also an avid candlepin bowler. He enjoyed sports trivia and was as fan of all New England sport teams. He also enjoyed watching classic movies with his wife by his side and walking his little dog throughout the neighborhood. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jonathan Shattuck of Peabody, two grandchildren, Matthew Shattuck of Peabody and Emilee Shattuck of Salem, three sisters, Annette Fountain, Rosalie Tavernese and Theresa Tavernese all of Peabody, a brother, Joseph Tavernese of Rochester, NH and several nieces and nephews. ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Monday, March 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. All attendees are required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
