Obituary of Mona J Magesky

Ramona “Mona” J (Cashman) Magesky, 90, of Peabody, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon surrounded by her family at Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Walter Magesky. Born in East Orange, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary “Elsie” Cashman. She was raised and educated in Peabody and attended St. John’s School and was a graduate of St. John’s Girls High School, class of 1948. Mona loved to draw and won a scholarship to art school. Her artistic talent showed through in the many simple drawings she created over the years for family or friends during a visit. Upon her graduation from high school, Mona started working for the telephone company as an operator for New England Telephone in Peabody, and then worked for several years at the State House. After raising her family, she went back to work full-time as an operator and retired in the early 1990’s. Mona had a wonderful sense of humor and people enjoyed her company because she made everyone feel so welcome. She and her husband traveled often to Homosassa Springs, Florida to spend time with longtime friends, and also enjoyed traveling with many other friends. Mona had a love for animals which she shared with her children. Mona is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Tricia Magesky of Peabody, her two daughters, Sheila Magesky and her companion, Wallace Porter of Danvers and Patrice Magesky and her companion, David Blake of Peabody, her two sisters, Barbara Clifford of Lee, NH and Delores Gibeley of Topsfield, her long-time friends, Louise and Jimmy Nangle and Harriet Finnegan and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Brian Magesky and her brother Timothy Joseph Cashman. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 9:30 until 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Service at the funeral home at 11:30 AM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
