I am sad to learn of Bob’s passing. I knew Bob through St. Ann’s where he always greeted us with a warm friendly hello. I especially enjoyed and appreciated his inspirational comments about the positive aspects of being a teacher and the positive values of a good educational system. He will be missed, and may he Rest In Peace!

Bob was such a fine getntleman with a warm gentle demeanor. I met Bob while working at St. Mary's High School, and had the opportunity to work with Bob. Bob was served as a class agent and was always willing to solicit his classmates to help St. Mary's.
I am sure the bells in heaven were pealing joyously to welcome another extraordianry St. Mary's boy, a true Marian Man, home.

I am very saddened to her of the passing of Bob "Coach" Melanson. I had the privilege and honor to play hockey for Coach Melanson at Lynn Classical in 1975 and 1976. Coach Melanson always provided me with positive direction and encouragement behind the bench. He was the ultimate professional and always conducted himself with poise and dignity and encouraged his teams to work hard and have fun. I copied his playbook going through life and coaching many years in youth sports. In later years, I would run into Bob at hockey rinks all over the north shore where he would be quietly watching a game of hockey. He always greeted me with a smile and a firm handshake. He always asked about my family and how I was doing. He was a very caring and nice man. I was injured in a game once and taken to the hospital. Bob came by the hospital after the game to ensure that I was doing well. That was just his way. The North Shore has lost a hockey legend but the world has lost a super nice guy. Thanks! for all you did Coach. Please accept my sincerest condolence on your loss. Sincerely, Jack Gavin, LCHS 77.

Thoughts and prayers going out to the Melanson family!
Bob went to St. Mary's and Boston College with my dad Tom McGovern.
I had the pleasure of working with him in the Lynn School Department.
My husband met him up at Gannon. He's just an awesome guy!

Bob was the epitome of a good man... We talked often over our many years together at Classical. Sage advice, a wonderful sense of humor, and a courtliness that made one feel special. Thank you, Bob, for showing me that there are lovely men in this life...

I knew Mr Melanson as a "mechanical drawing" teacher at LCHS (I graduated in 1982.) Beyond the classroom, though, Mr. Melanson was one of those teachers who made a student feel like a person. In the halls of LCHS, or even outside the building, if he saw me, there was always a "Hi BIll," or a "Hello Mr. Webb" (if he was feeling formal.) I hope that the many memories and stories are of some comfort to his loved ones
