Kevin Murray

Obituary of Kevin Patrick Murray

Kevin Patrick Murray, 70, of Peabody, died on March 17, 2021 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford following a long battle from the side effects of Agent Orange Poisoning. Kevin had been at the Veterans Hospital in Bedford for the last five years. Born in New York, NY, Kevin was very proud of his New York roots and his Irish heritage. He was the son of the late Bartholomew P and Mildred M (Foster) Murray. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1968. He continued his education at Wentworth Institution in Boston before enlisting with the United States Army. He served for three years in Vietnam, did two tours of front-line combat, and was the recipient of several medals and a marksman badge. He was honorably discharged on July 5, 1973, earning the rank of Spec 4. Following the Vietnam War, being an avid outdoorsman, Kevin worked in construction for many years before he became ill and was diagnosed with Agent Orange Exposure. Kevin was an intense “Gamer” in his later years, taking pride in his amazing “Area 51” gaming system and beating the scores of players around the world who were much younger than him. He would always say “Respect your elders” after a battle. Kevin had a strong sense of humor, if you were in his company for more than 5 minutes, you would certainly be laughing. Kevin was a lifelong learner. He was able to carry on a conversation with anyone on most any subject. He was quite a scholar. The main thing Kevin should be remembered by is “He did everything his way”. No matter the circumstances, Kevin was certain in his convictions and stayed true to who he was. He lived and died on his terms, period. Kevin is survived by her his sister Denise Hitchman of Peabody and by his brother Bart of Derry, NH, a niece, nephews, an Aunt, and by many dear friends and family throughout the North Shore. He will be dearly missed by all and would like to say to everyone “Keep Rockin”. Following cremation, a celebration of life ceremony will be at a later date.
