Obituary of Richard A. "Richy" Newton
Richard A. “Richy” Newton, 59, of Peabody died Sunday morning in Spencer, MA after a lengthy illness. He was born in Salem on August 27, 1947, the son of the late Gordon and Dorothy (Lally) Newton and was a lifelong resident of Peabody.
He was a graduate of Peabody High School and then entered the US Navy as a member of the Seabees where he saw action in Vietnam prior to his discharge.
Mr. Newton was a welder for
Lynn Sand & Stone and later called Aggregate Industries in Swampscott for over 20 years. He also owned and operated the Newton Welding Company of Peabody for many years.
He enjoyed camping and was a Boston Sports fan of the Red Sox and Patriots.
He was a very
active member of the VFW Post 1011 of Peabody holding many offices and stood color guard during the Movable Wall project when it came to Peabody.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Ann (Oldytowski) Newton of Spencer, his 2 daughters, Lynda Newton of Chicago,Il and Kathleen Newton and her son, Gavin Newton Gauthier both of Spencer, a brother, Robert Newton of Peabody, his mother-in-law, Mary Oldytowski and 2 brother and sisters-in-law and by many nieces and nephews all of whom he dearly loved. He was the brother of the late Philip Newton and brother-in-law of the late Patricia Newton.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 until 08:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church
St., Peabody facility. His Funeral will be held on
Friday at 10:00 AM from the Funeal Home
followed by Services in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Veterans Section of Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 1023 15th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005 in his memory.
