Obituary of Mary Lou (Greehy) Berry

Mary Lou (Greehy) Berry, 79 , of Lynnfield and formerly of Peabody, died peacefully Thursday morning at her home surrounded by her family after a year long illness. She was the wife of the late Peabody State Representative and Jeweler John T. Berry. She was born in Peabody on June 29, 1927, the daughter of the late John H. and Lillian A. (Brunet) Greehy and was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1944. She had resided in Peabody most of her life before moving to Lynnfield nine years ago. She was first employed at the Sylvania Lighting Plant in Salem during WW11. Later, she worked along with her husband at the John T. Berry Jeweler’s Store in Peabody as a salesperson, bookkeeper and buyer for 15 years and ran the store for 2 years following her husband’s death. She then became a clerk with the Peabody District Court for 22 years prior to her retirement in 1990. She had been active in helping the Mental Health Association of the North Shore and also involved in the J.B. Thomas Hospital Aid Association and the St. John’s School Mothers Guild. She also participated in Girl Scouts Troop 358 and as a Den Mother in the Cub Scouts. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and doing arts and crafts for herself and others. She had a passion for dancing and shopping. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John T. Berry Jr. and his wife Laurie Taymor-Berry of Cambridge, 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Kevin Berry of Cape Coral, FL, Suzanne and Alan Mazur of East Kingston, NH and Jacqueline and George Orphanos of Lynnfield, MA, her beloved companion of 35 years, John “Jack” Geer of Peabody, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including Billie-Ann Dempsey of Salem and Donna Slager of Cape Coral, FL. She was the sister of the late Lillian O’Grady of Salem. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the new 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Marie Goretti Church, Chestnut St., Lynnfield at 10:00 AM . Following Cremation, Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Danvers. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 in her memory.
