Obituary of Jose Bernardo

Jose Bernardo, 82, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at the Salem Hospital following a short illness. He was the husband of Isabel (Matos) Bernardo with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Born and raised in Jorjais, Portugal, he was the son of the late Domingos and Olivia (Teixeira) Bernardo and had resided in Peabody for the past 41 years. He was first employed at the Duchess Footwear Co. of Salem for 4 years and Then worked as a tanner at the Cut-Rite Leather Co., of Peabody for 22 years prior To his retirement 17 years ago. He traveled back to Portugal annually and enjoyed gardening and making wine. Surviving him besides his wife are 3 sons and daughter-in-laws, Anthony and Maria Bernardo and Herman and Constance Bernardo all of Peabody, and Dino and Sylvia Bernardo of Mesquite, Tx., 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Maria Lima of Peabody And Rose and Antonio Nogueira of Salem, 2 brothers, Antonio and Diamantino Bernardo both of Peabody, 12 Grandchildren, 2 great Grand children and many Nieces and nephews. His Funeral will be held on Friday at 8:00 a.m. from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St., Peabody of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 9:00 a.m. Burial In St. Mary’ s Cemtery, Salem.
