Obituary of Claire H. (Sexton) Scanlon

Claire H. (Sexton) Scanlon WILMINGTON--Claire H. (Sexton) Scanlon, 83, beloved wife of the late William Scanlon, Sr., died Thursday evening at the Kindred Hospital in Peabody following a brief illness. Born in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late James and Clara (Diehm) Sexton. She lived in Newark for many years, and after some time in New Jersey she moved to Weymouth, MA where she lived for several years. Upon retirement she lived in Bourne, MA, and when she was widowed lived in Chelmsford then in Wilmington, always near family. Mrs. Scanlon enjoyed walking, the beach at the ocean, and playing scrabble, yet she mostly enjoyed being with her family as her cherished grandchildren were a gift for her. She is survived by: two sons, William J. Scanlon, Jr. of Tewksbury and Raymond Scanlon of Framingham; one daughter, Theresa Newberg of Peabody; she leaves 9 cherished grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, one sister Marie Tedesco of NJ, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Scanlon, her brothers Edward, James, Paul, Joseph, and Robert Sexton, and sister Cecilia Tanner. Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 A.M. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, 712 Lowell St., Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in Oakland Grove Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
