Obituary of Barbara (Vadala) Tomchik- Yngve
Barbara (Vadala) Tomchik Yngve, age 80, died of kidney failure in Hollywood, FL on October 17 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Barbara was born November 15, 1925 and raised in Arlington, MA. After graduating with a nursing degree from Simmons College, she worked for several years at Mass. General Hospital. There she met and married Dr. Frederick Tomchik, a radiologist, of Bridgeport, CT. After an overseas stint in the Army, the couple purchased their first home in Lexington. While raising five sons, Barbara worked as a nurse in the Lexington Public Schools for fifteen years.
After the death of Dr. Tomchik in 1975, she married Robert Yngve of Bolton, MA in 1977. The couple lived in Lexington until their retirement. Thereafter, they established residences in Palm City, FL; Fryeburg, ME; and Lady Lake, FL. Illness eventually required residence in assisted living facilities in Broward County, FL.
In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by five sons: Dr. Robert Tomchik of Miramar, FL, Dr. Kenneth Tomchik of Wauconda, IL, Mark Tomchik of Peabody, MA, Arthur Tomchik of Big Bear, CA, and Glenn Tomchik of Everett, WA, their wives and ten grandchildren. She is also survived by her three stepdaughters: Carolyn (Yngve) Self of Boca Raton, FL, Susan (Yngve) Spinner of Bristol, RI, and Lois (Yngve) Casello of Norton, MA.
Her funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church at 16 Chestnut St., Peabody, MA at 9 am on Saturday, Oct. 28, followed by interment at the Westview Cemetery at 201 Bedford St. (Rtes 4 & 225) in Lexington. Visiting hours will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody Facility from 6 - 8 pm on Friday, Oct. 27. Memorial contributions in the name of Barbara Tomchik Yngve may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts--311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
