Manuel Santos Silva
PEABODYManuel Santos Silva, 61, beloved husband of Maria (Lima) Silva, died unexpectedly on Wednesday evening at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief illness.
Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of Adalgisa Santos Silva of Peabody and the late Antonio Silva. He lived there for many 24 years, then emigrated to the United States, settling in Peabody where he lived for the last 38 years.
Mr. Silva worked with Bicknell & Fuller in Peabody for 18 years, then served for the Water Department in the Department of Public Works for the City of Peabody for the last 20 years.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, was a member of the CLC Club of Peabody, the Portuguese-American Veterans Post, Our Lady of Help Society and the Holy Ghost Society. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing Kale, making wine, fishing, and he loved the ocean. He especially loved gatherings of family and friends.
He will be dearly missed by his family, including: his wife, Maria (Lima) Silva of Peabody, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage; a son and daughter-in-law, Antonio L. & Jill Silva of Reading; one daughter, Cindy L. Silva of Peabody; three brothers, Antonio A. Da Silva of Toronto, Canada, Joao E. Silva and Joe Silva, both of Peabody; five nieces and nephews, Katherine Da Silva and Diana Da Silva, both of Toronto, Paul Silva of Beverly, Bryan Silva and Stacey Silva, both of Peabody, and numerous friends in Peabody and the Azores.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
A visitation will be held today from 4 to 8 P.M.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
