Obituary of Mary E. (Manning) Conway

Peabody, February 10, 2002. Mary Elizabeth (Manning) Conway, 76, of Cottage St., Peabody, died early Sunday morning at the Pilgrim Rehab & Nursing Center in Peabody following a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late Edward F. Mr. Ed Conway. Born and raised in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late John & Ann (Hart) Manning. She was a lifelong resident of the city and had lived in the same homestead for most of her life. She had attended St. John’ s Grammar school and continued on to attend St. John’ s School and was a graduate, class of 1942. She had worked mainly in the restaurant business, first she had worked with her husband who owned and operated the Mr. Ed Luncheon on Atlantic Ave in Marblehead for 20 years and later had worked at the Century House in Peabody as a waitress for 20 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality of St. John’ s. She also was an avid Red Sox fan and had enjoyed knitting and ceramics. She is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-laws, Edward Jr. & Cindy Conway of Manchester-by-the-sea, Peabody Police Officer Robert & Kathy Conway of Peabody, and David & Cheryl Conway of Amesbury; a brother, John Manning of Peabody; a sister, Dorothy Ford of Wenham; 5 grandchildren, Kim Andersen of Essex, Ian Conway of Peabody, Jessica Conway of Amesbury, and Allyson & Meghan Conway of Manchester-by-the-Sea; 1 great grandchild, Robbie Andersen of Essex and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, (978-531-0398)followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Cremation will follow on Wednesday and there will be Inurnment in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem on Thursday at 9:30 AM at graveside. Visitation on Tuesday from 5-8 PM.
