Obituary of Dorothy (Resse) Mello

Dorothy (Resse) Mello, 77, of Peabody and formerly of Saugus, died Sunday morning at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home, following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of John Mello of Peabody with whom she shared over 25 years of marriage. Born in Boston, on April 18, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Marjorie Mooney and Alfred and Anna Shepard. Dorothy Shepard grew up in Saugus and attended Saugus Public Schools. For several years Dorothy worked at the Hilltop Steak House and later at the J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody. Dorothy loved life, friends, family, and especially the holidays. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. She will be sadly missed by her husband John, her son John Resse and his wife Jamie of Beverly, her daughter Linda McAdam of Alfred, ME, her grandchildren, Christopher McAdam, Jeffrey Resse, Jake Resse, and Justin Resse, her sister, Marjorie Troy of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., her stepson John Mello and his wife Charlene, stepdaughter Donna Talkington and her husband Russell and their children, Bradford and Mathew of Peabody. She was the sister of the late Lillian McGuire, Katherine McCarthy, Alice Connolly, and John Mooney. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. John’s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
