Obituary of Gregory X. Vervates

Gregory X. Vervates, 58, of Danvers, died Thursday afternoon at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Cheryl (Texeira) Vervates with whom he shared over 35 years of marriage. Born in Lesvos, Greece, he was the son of Maria (Takzithi) Vervates of Lesvos, Greece and the late Haralambos Vervates. He was raised and educated in Greece and immigrated to the United States in 1968. He lived in Peabody and Salem and has spent the last 19 years living in Danvers. Along with his wife Cheryl, he was co-owner and proprietor of Gregory’s Lounge on Walnut St. in Peabody since 1987. He had previously worked for AC Lawrence, Zolotas Hardware Store as a painter, and for 6 years owned his own canteen truck route in Boston. He was a hardworking man who also enjoyed doing construction jobs on the side as well fishing and cooking. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his two sons, Harry and Charles Vervates, both of Danvers, and his two brothers and sister, George and Kostas Vervates and Katrina Vervates, all of Lesvos, Greece. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 PM and 6-8PM. Burial in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem.
