Obituary of Kathleen M. (Hallahan) Aherne
Kathleen M. (Hallahan) Aherne, age 101, of Peabody, died Wednesday at the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody. She was the wife of 46 years to the late James Aherne who died in 1991.
She was born in Peabody on March 12, 1905, the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Terreo) Hallahan and was a lifelong resident of Peabody.
She was first employed as a secretary at the former A.C. Lawrence Leather Company at the Riverworks office and later was a secretary at the Peabody Municipal Light Plant. Later she worked at the Peabody High School and later following her marriage, she became the secretary for the Director of the Peabody Vocational High School for 20 years prior to her retirement.
She was a lifelong parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody and was a member of the Ladies Sodality. She also had been a member of the Peabody Garden club.
She is survived by her son, Rev. James J. Aherne M.S. of the Lasallette Fathers and pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church of Holyoke, MA, two nieces, Dorothea Mullane of Haverhill and Frances Coffey of Burnsville, Minnesota and several grand nieces and grand nephews. She was the sister of the late John and William Hallahan.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway,Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM from the funeral home followed by Concelebrated Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund, 54 North Summer St., Holyoke, MA 01040 in her memory.
