Obituary of Amelia "Millie" (Sarowsky) Leger

Amelia “Millie” (Sarowsky) Leger, 74, of Peabody, died Saturday afternoon at her residence surrounded by her family after a twenty year battle with cancer. She was the wife of retired Peabody Police Officer Alfred J. Leger with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. She was born in Peabody on December 4, 1931, the daughter of the late John and Ana (Humena) Sarowsky and had resided in Peabody all her life. She was a graduate and honor student from Peabody High School class of 1949 and was the head cheerleader in her senior year. She then began working as an insurance clerk at the P.J. Woods Insurance Agency of Peabody for 57 years prior to her retirement in June of 2006. She loved to cook and enjoyed taking walks with her friends around Peabody. She also loved to go dancing and was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Surviving her besides her husband are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard J. and Helen Leger and William Leger all of Peabody, a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Ronald Brown of Beverly, 4 grandchildren, Chloe and Spencer Brown of Beverly and Richard A. and Timothy Leger of Peabody, two brothers, Walter Sarowsky of Peabody, and Steven Sarowsky of Newburyport, a sister, Annie Calnan of Davie, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Paul, John and Peter Sarowsky, Olga Eagan and Mary Kingsley. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:15 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
