Obituary of Daniel W. Connelly Jr.
Daniel William Connelly Jr., 73 of Plum Island, Newbury and formerly of Peabody, died Wednesday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers after a 5 month illness with cancer. He was the husband of Lorraine (Cormier) Connelly with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.
He was born and raised in Salem, the son of the late Daniel W. and Alice (Pszenny) Connelly Sr. and was a graduate from Salem High School in 1950 and later from Salem State College. He served with the US Naval Reserves during the Korean War.
He had been a member of the Hochflieger Ski Club in NH where he met his wife Lorraine and still remain very close with the members today.
He had been a teacher at the Peabody Veterans High School for 25 years where he taught history and social studies and touched many students’ lives prior to his retirement 15 years ago.
He did some extensive traveling and loved spending his winters in Maui, Hawaii and visiting his son in California.
Mr. Connelly had operated along with his wife, Lorraine, the Hearts and Flowers Florist in Peabody for 17 years before giving the reigns to his son David and daughter-in-law, Lyn.
For the past 10 years he lived on the ocean in Newbury, Plum Island where he walked and sat on the beach and met many friends including the Jewett family. In the past year, he invested in property, The Thirsty Whale in Market Square, Newburyport where his son, Michael and his partner Steve run the operation.
With his sense of humor and musical talent, people loved to be in his company. He had been a member of the Peabody Lodge of Elks, # 1409 for many years.
Surviving him besides his wife are his three sons, David and his wife Lyn Connelly of Peabody, Michael Shawn Connelly of Plum Island, Newbury and Daniel Connelly III, of Los Angelos, CA and an adopted son, Stephen Jewett of Newbury, two grandchildren, Zoie and Davan Connelly of Peabody, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Phil Little of Salem and Alice and Bill Tracchia and Kathleen Connelly all of Peabody and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Conway,Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His Funeral will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery,
Salem. Flowers are accepted and donations may also be made to the Fr. Sears Memorial Park, c/o John Bursaw, 54 Southern Blvd., Newbury MA 01951 in his memory.
