Obituary of Reginald Hamilton
Reginald Hamilton, 82, of Peabody, died Saturday, December 02, 2006 peacefully at home. He was the husband of Dorothy (Hardcastle) Hamilton with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
He was born in Glascow, Scotland on April 8, 1924, and was educated in the Glascow School System. In July of 1942, he enlisted in the Royal Air Force and was a top gunner on Wellington, Lancaster and B 17 bombers. He served with the RAF for over 4 years during WW 11 before his discharge as a sergeant and was a highly decorated veteran who survived many missions over Germany.
He emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1957 where he met and married his wife, Dorothy. In 1960, the family moved to Massachusetts and had resided in Peabody for the past 43 years.
He had been employed for many years as a quality control technician, the most notable of which was at A.C. Electronics of Wakefield where he assisted in the development of the gyroscope which steered the first rocket to the moon. Later he worked at Varian Electronics in Gloucester for 14 years prior to his retirement.
Surviving him besides his wife are a daughter, Stacy Hamilton Katz and her husband Michael of Katonah, NY and a son and daughter-in-law, William and Tammy Hamilton of Tewksbury, MA, five grandchildren, James, Brad and Ainsley Katz of NY and Emily and Lindsey Hamilton of Tewksbury.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 until 4:00 PM and 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
