Obituary of Dorothy M. (Ryan) Chenery

Dorothy M. (Ryan) Chenery, 87, of Peabody and formerly of Salem, died early Tuesday morning at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devote wife of the late John J. Chenery. Born in Salem, she was daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Welch) Ryan. She was raised and educated in Salem and later graduated from Salem Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. Upon marrying her husband, John, she moved to Peabody and has lived their since 1951. She worked for over 40 years as a Registered Nurse, mostly in the Maternity Unit at Salem Hospital, before her retirement. She also enjoyed reading, golfing, traveling, gardening and was a member of the Ladies Sodality at St. John’s Church in Peabody. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Mary Jo Chenery of Groveland and Paul Chenery of Peabody, a sister, Eileen Hurley of Salem, two grandchildren, Sean and Kathleen Chenery as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edward Ryan, Rev. Leo K, Ryan, and Marion Young. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
