Obituary of Alexander J. Michalak Jr.

Alexander J. Michalak Jr., 88, of Lynnfield, died Friday at his home surrounded by his family after a short illness. He was the husband of the late Anna May (Flaherty) Michalak who died last February. He was born in Roxbury on April 15, 1918, the son of the late Alexander and Carrie (Bailey) (Swan) Michalak and later moved with his family to Medford and had resided in Lynnfield most of his life. He was a veteran of WW11 serving with the US. Army Air Corps in the European, African and Middle Eastern theatre campaigns from 1943 until his discharge in March of 1946. He then became a passenger conductor for the Boston and Albany, the Penn Central and finally the Boston and Maine Railroad for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1979. He and his wife summered in the family camp in New Brunswick, Canada for many years. He also enjoyed working in his garden, fishing and doing his photography. He had been a member of the VFW of Saugus. He also liked to play the Saxaphone for family get togethers. He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Marilyn E. (Miller) Michalak of Peabody, a grandson and his wife, US Navy Petty Officer John A. and Jodi Michalak of Ct., a brother, Edmund Swan of Spring Hill, FL, a sister, Lillian Anderson of Billerica, 4 great grandchildren, Brandyn, John Jr., Bryan and Bryanna Michalak all of Ct., and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Ronald A. Michalak, the grandfather of the late Timothy A. Michalak and the brother of the late Herbert Michalak and Isabel McCabe. His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Conway,Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody location followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Assumption Church, Lynnfield at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
