Obituary of Gerald B. "Jerry" Carpenter

Gerald “Jerry” B. Carpenter, 60, of Peabody, died peacefully Friday evening at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with ALS. He was the loving husband of Bette Jean (Gibely) Carpenter with whom he shared 38 years of marriage. . He was born in Lynn of November 6, 1946, the son of the late George and Mary (Feeney) Carpenter Sr and was raised in Salem graduating from Salem High School in 1964. He graduated from Burdette College and Northeastern University receiving a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He went on to Suffolk University where he earned his Masters degree. He had been an auditor with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 28 years. He was also the proprietor of Atlantic Financial Services in Peabody for the past 30 years. He had been a member of the North Shore Chamber of Commerce, the Citizens for Adequate Housing in Peabody and was active in the Peabody International Festival. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his two new grandchildren. In addition to his wife Bette Jean, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debra Carpenter Ruiz and Tony Ruiz of Peabody, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kim Carpenter of Ashburg, VA, his two grandchildren, Grace Elizabeth Carpenter and Joseph Brian Ruiz , a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Ellen Carpenter of Florida, a sister, Patricia Hidler of Maine, 2 sisters-in-law, Joanne Gibely of Boxford and Elizabeth Carpenter of Florida, his mother-in-law, Esther Gibely of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George Carpenter Jr. and the brother-in-law of the late Leonard Gibely. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Peabody.
