Obituary of Courtney Marie Corning

Courtney Marie Corning, 17, of Peabody, beloved daughter of John (Jack) and Ginny Corning, who was born in Salem and lived all her life in Peabody, died suddenly Friday evening at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Courtney was a senior student and star athlete at Peabody Veteran’s Memorial High School. She was a proud member of the girl’s Varsity Softball team and as a junior last year was awarded the team’s MVP. Courtney’s love for the game and for her teammates contributed toward her overall success as a player. Her successful team contributions last season, and in recognition of her individual play, lead to her being voted on to the Lynn Item, Salem News and Greater Boston (GBL) All-Star Teams. Courtney also was a member of the Northeast Quicksilver, a Junior Olympic tournament softball team. She was elected captain at 16 (a position typically held for graduating seniors) and was awarded several game MVP honors against some of the top competitive teams in tournament play in Orlando, FLA. Courtney was also a proud member of this year’s first Peabody High Girl’s Varsity Ice Hockey team and recently scored her first goal, of which she was very proud. Courtney has left a significant impression on anyone who knew her. She was full of encouragement and supportive to teammates and friends alike. She always loved to surround herself with family and friends, and always had a gentle touch and a sweet smile when she would greet you. Courtney was a dedicated employee both Stop and Shop in Danvers, and at the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody. She also volunteered at Salem Hospital. Her plans were to continue her education in the fall at Salem State College pursing a career in nursing. In addition to her parents, Courtney is loved and survived by her brothers Jason Penney, Ryan Penney, John Corning III, and Patrick Corning, her sister, Lindsey (Penney) Norden, her nephews, John Corning IV, Matthew and Sean Norden, her niece Makayla Norden, her grandparents, John and Corrine Corning and her grandmother, Virginia Lindsey, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
