Obituary of Rev. Alan Norbert Crowley O. Carm
Rev. Alan Norbert Crowley, O.Carm, age 90, of the Carmelite Order, and stationed at the St. Therese Chapel at the North Shore Mall for 28 years, died Monday evening at the Beverly Hospital after a short illness.
He was born in Medford on December 20, 1916, the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (O’Connor) Crowley and entered the Mount Carmel Preparatory Seminary in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada . He made his profession of Vows on August 15, 1935 and studied education at Canisius University in Buffalo, NY and Music at Pope Pius Tenth School in New York and also at Catholic University in Washington,DC.
He was ordained a Carmelite priest on June 10, 1941 and first served in Joliet , Illinois before moving to Hamilton, MA where he served as Procurator at the seminary there. In 1948 , Father went out to serve parish ministry for the next twenty eight years serving mostly in Eastern United States and in New Jersey area.
In 1976, Father returned to Massachusetts where he was a priest at St, Therese Chapel at the North Shore Mall for 28 years before his retirement 2 years ago.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews from the North Shore area. He was the brother of the late Francis, Joseph and John and Mary Crowley.
A Visitation will be held at the Carmelite Fathers Residence, 4 Wheatland St., Peabody on Wednesday from 3:00 until 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns at 15 Mount Carmel Road in Danvers. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Carmelite Chapel or the Carmelite Missions 4 Wheatland St., Peabody, MA 01960 in his memory.
