Obituary of Wallace Emerson Barrows
Wallace Emerson Barrows, 88, of Peabody, died Tuesday evening at the Pilgrim House Nursing Home in Peabody after a long illness. He was the husband of Hazel (Bloomquist) Barrows with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.
He was born in Wilmington, Ma on October 16, 1918, the son of the late Wallace E. and Anne (Hughes) Barrows and was a graduate of Phillips Andover Academy and later the Bryant and Stratton Business College in Boston.
He had been a District Sales Manager for the Deleware and Hudson Railroad in the New York Area for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1981.
He had resided for 8 years in Maine before moving to Peabody 44 years ago. Mr. Barrows was a veteran of WW II serving with the US. Army Air Corps.
He enjoyed golfing at the Cyrstle Springs Golf Club and had a hole in one there.
Wallace was a secretary to the freight Transport of the Boston Traffic Club and also was a member of the New England Grain and Feed Council in Maine. He was a member of the Friendship Lodge of Masons of Wilmington and the Scottish Rites lodge in Salem.
Surviving him besides his wife are a son, Wallace “Wally” Barrows of Marshfield, MA, 2 daughters, Nancy Wilson of Windham, ME and Marilyn Scheufele of Plymouth, MA, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and five nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway,Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
