Obituary of James S. Xindaris

James S. Xindaris, 86, of Peabody, died early Thursday morning at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Steven and Angelina (Tsitolas) Xindaris. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School. After high school, he entered the United States Navy and served during World War II. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Bronze Star and received a Navy unit Commendation “for outstanding heroism” in action against enemy Japanese forces during the invasion of Guam, from July 21 to August 10, 1944. After the War, James embarked on a 30 plus year career as an insurance salesman with the Prudential Life Insurance Company in Boston, retiring in 1980. James was also a long time member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, in Peabody and served as President of the Church and the Men's Club years ago. He also was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching college football and Boston’s Professional Sport’s teams. He is survived by two sisters, Helen Bulgaris of Byfield and Alice Pashby of Peabody, two sisters-in-law, Eva Xindaris of Texas, and Jacqueline Xindaris of Peabody, as well as several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Charles, Christopher, and Pericles Xindaris. His Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by Services at 10:00 AM in St Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Arthritis Foundation, 29 Crafts St., Suite 450, Newton, MA 02158-1287 or St. Vasilios Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
