Obituary of Higinio "Papa Chong" Chong Liu

Higinio Chong Liu "Papa Chong", 94, husband of Angelica (Kcomt) Chong of Lawrence, died Thursday morning at the Lawrence General Hospital with his family at his side. Mr. Chong Liu was born on January 10, 1913 in Punyin Kwang Tung, China. He resided in Peru for many years before immigrating to the United States in the early 1970’s and he made his home on the North Shore, then Chinatown and most recently in Lawrence. Mr. Chong Liu was employed for many years as a chef at the Cathy Gardens Restaurant in Lowell until his retirement in the late 1980’s. Mr. Chong Lin was a good husband, father and had a special love for everyone. If anyone was in need of advice, he was the person to see. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, Tai Chi, Chinese Opera, watching cowboy movies especially the ones staring John Wayne and Kung Fu movies. In addition to his wife with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, he is survived by his children and 2 sons-in-law, Antonio Chong of No. Andover, Roberto Chong of Billerica, Netty and Michael Lyons of Peabody, Sara and Philip Von Guggenberg of San Francisco CA, Alex Chong of Lawrence and Raul Chong of Methuen; 5 grandchildren, Michael Lyons of Shaker Heights OH, Kenneth Lyons of Seattle WA, Kimberly Love of Salem, Miriam Von Guggenberg and Beatrice Von Guggenberg both of San Francisco CA; 2 great grandchildren, David and Jonathan Lyons of OH; many nieces and nephews. A daughter Miriam Chong pre deceased him. His funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
