Obituary of Joseph J. Verza

Joseph J. Verza, 62, died unexpectedly at his home in Peabody on Monday February 5, 2007. Mr. Verza was born November 11, 1944 in Peabody son of the late Joseph F. and Beatrice A. (Skrudgis) Verza. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School Class of 1962 and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Verza was employed for many years as a draftsman at Seaman’s Corporation until his disability retirement. He later volunteered his time upgrading computers at Bell Labs, which were then donated to local schools. He was a member of the Italian American Citizens Club and the V.F.W. Fidelity Post 1011 in Peabody. Joe was an excellent cook and pool player. He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Joanne R. and Jeffrey P. Morrissey of Amesbury; a nephew and his wife, Raymond and Amie Marquis of Peabody; a niece, Darlene Morrissey of San Dimas CA; his cousin who was raised with him, Sandra Lotito of Newburyport; many aunts, uncles and other cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday February 10, 2007 at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Relatives and friends may pay their respects Saturday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. (downtown location) Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston MA 02115. Burial of ashes will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
