Obituary of Bertha Cecelia (Sauvageau) Pohju

Bertha Cecelia (Sauvageau) Pohju, 93, of Peabody, died Monday evening at her home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Victor Daniel Pohju. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Theodule and Philomine (Perron) Sauvageau. She was a lifelong resident of Peabody and attended Peabody Public Schools. She worked for over 20 years as a trimmer with the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company in Peabody. After her retirement, she worked an additional ten years with the Golden Agers of Peabody, doing housekeeping chores and more importantly; she enjoyed being a companion to others. She also was a longtime communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody and enjoyed knitting, especially for the annual St. John’s Fair in December. Being with her family was very important to her, especially her grandchildren, and is survived by a son, Daniel Pohju of Peabody, a daughter, Ruthann and her husband, William Frost, retired Fire chief of Amesbury, two grandchildren, Leanne and her husband Phillip Perron of Hudson, NH, and Danny Frost of Amesbury, a great grandson, Lucas Perron of Hudson, NH, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Theodore, Henry, and Harry Sauvageau, Martha Deschamps, Victoria Jeffery, Grace Rouillard, Cora Sauvageau, Rachel Walters, and Lorraine Solodiuk. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. John's Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
