Obituary of John W. Caton

John W. Caton, 82, husband of Claire B. (Dargon) Caton of Peabody, died Thursday morning February 15, 2007 at his home with his family at his side. Mr. Caton was born June 16, 1924 in Boston, son of the late Michael and Helen (Turbert) Caton. He was raised in Brookline and graduated from Brookline High School Class of 1942. During WW II, he served as a Private in the U.S. Army with the 15th AF Colorado Springs. Following the war, he pursued his education at Northeastern University in Boston and received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering in 1952. Before moving to Peabody in 1990, he had resided in Hamilton and Danvers for many years. Mr. Caton was employed for 36 years as an Engineer at GTE Sylvania on Sylvan St., Danvers until his retirement in 1986. He devoted his entire life to his family and later to his 5 grandchildren. His proudest moments were at family gatherings. In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Helen P. Caton, Mary F. and Bruce Norwood, John W. Caton, James R. Caton, Michael T. and Amy Caton; his grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, and Timothy Caton, Joseph Blanchard and Kelsey Norwood and many nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., (downtown location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Salem St., Lynnfield. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Monday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Hamilton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923.
