Obituary of Gerald R. Griffin

Gerald R. Griffin, 81, husband of Elaine T. (Gedick) Griffin of Peabody, died Saturday February 17, 2007 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. Mr. Griffin was born on May 22, 1925 in Lynn son of the late Gerald A. and Jennie W. (Hall) Griffin. He was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School Class of 1942. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and served as a Yeoman 1st class until 1946 and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal. In 1951, due to the Korean Conflict he was recalled into active duty in the U.S. Navy and served until receiving his honorable discharge in December of 1952. He then pursued his education and received an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Burdett College. Mr. Griffin was employed for 20 years as a maintenance coordinator at Filene’s Department Store at the North Shore Shopping Center in Peabody until his retirement in 1992. He began his working career as a sales clerk at the Feldman Company of Lynn and then at Cronin Auto Parts in Peabody. He was very family oriented and coached for the Peabody Little League and the Girls Softball League so he could be involved with his children. In addition to this, he was the Principal of the Religious Education Program at St. Ann’s Church. In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his children, Greg R. Griffin of Peabody, Kathleen F. “Kathy” Griffin of Lynn, Karen A. and her husband Donald Kerr of Errol NH; 5 grandchildren, Heather and Holly Griffin of Lynn, Cailin, Breezy and Olivia Griffin of Peabody; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Griffin of Peabody and 5 nieces and nephews. A son Jeffery M. Griffin pre deceased him on December 11, 2006. His funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown MA 02472.
