Obituary of Manuel I. da Silva
Peabody, February 10, 2002. Manuel I. da Silva, 63, of Center Street, Peabody, died unexpectedly late Saturday evening at the Lahey Clinic North, Peabody, following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Maria (Melo) da Silva, with whom he shared over 41 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose & Rosa Amelia da Silva. He had lived in Portugal for most of his life before immigrating to the United States 22 years ago and has been a resident of Peabody ever since.
While living in Peabody, he had worked for several manufacturing companies and later had worked for 8 years for the Salem Suede Company as a machine operator, prior to his retirement 1-year ago.
Besides his loving wife of 41 years, he is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Maria & Joseph Martins of Peabody; a sister Jevenala L. da Silva of Portugal; 2 grandchildren, Alexander Joseph & Jacob Anthony Martins, both of Peabody; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Jose da Silva.
His funeral service will be held on Friday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility,(978-531-0398)followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
