Obituary of Mary (Spiliotis) Espinola

Mary (Spiliotis) Espinola, 79, of Peabody, wife of the late John E. Espinola, died Thursday morning at the Salem Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Espinola was born on June 5, 1927 in Peabody, daughter of the late Louis and Anastacia (Albani) Spiliotis. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School class of 1944. From 1962 until her return to Peabody in 1990, she resided in Hamilton. Mrs. Espinola began her working career as a bookkeeper at Borden Chemical Company in Peabody until her retirement in 1975. She then returned to work as a bookkeeper with World Seafood’s in Boston, a position she held for 20 years until 1995. Mrs. Espinola who was known as “Auntie Mary” and devoted her entire life to her nieces, nephews and their next 2 generations including their friends and parents by driving and attending their many school activities and functions. She also loved to travel to Las Vegas and CT with her family. Mrs. Espinola is survived by her sisters and their husbands, Helen McDonald, Virginia and Edwin Dutille and Jennie Retos all of Peabody and Connie and John Perakis of Lewiston NY; her many nieces, nephews, grand nieces & grand nephews and great grand nieces & great grand nephews. Her siblings Connie Spiliotis, Emily Lawrence, Isabelle Koulas, Paul, George and Andrew Spiliotis pre deceased her. Her funeral service will be held Monday at 12 p.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., (downtown location) Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody.
