Obituary of Marilyn T. (Smith) O'Rourke

Marilyn T. (Smith) O’Rourke, 77, of Peabody and formerly of Beverly, died early Saturday afternoon at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Thomas O’Rourke with whom she shared over 47 years of marriage. Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Theresa (Donlon) Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Beverly, attended Beverly Schools and was a graduate of Beverly High School, class of 1948. She had lived in Peabody for the past 8 months. As a young woman, she worked at the former United Shoe Machine Corp.in Beverly where she would eventually meet her future husband Thomas. Upon marrying her husband and later, at the birth of their children, she devoted herself to raising and caring for her family. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, reading, and being with her family. Besides her loving husband, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Maryanne O’Rourke of Riverside, RI, and Terrence and Jennifer O’Rourke of Berwick, ME, a daughter, Julie O’Rourke of Peabody, two grandchildren, Thomas O’Rourke and Liam O’Rourke, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Walter Smith. Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to a charity of one’s choice.
